Undelete software

Postby ColaBoy » Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:17 am

Can anyone recommend a decent 'file recovery/undelete' ultility. Ive tried a few shareware/freeware ones and even trails of commercial ones but they never really performed under simples tests.

Downloaded it but I might need a little assistance using it,could you help?

I ran a little test just to check it. I created a bitmap called 'FINDME' then deleted it. I then ran the program but it could'nt find it. It was the same with all the undelete software Ive used.

Open up the program. highlite the drive you want to search. A box will pop up saying "No valid support file system present on volume. Would you like to scan drive"

Select yes. A new window opens, click the scroll button on file system and uncheck the two that dont apply usually FAT and Ext3fs. Keep NTFS checked if thats right, then scan the drive.

I haven't used it in a very long time, but I think it will ask you for the first letter of the file that you select to recover. Any letter or number will work to recover the file.

Notice also, there is a help file and its pretty all inclusive.

Another thing also, I don't think that it is considered a lost file until you empty the recycle bin

Thanks IC. I downloaded the guide but I still dont get it. I mean,I delete something completely, empty the trash,do I search using the software and all I find is stuff from old web pages I've visted. I know its a DEMO,and I realize the limit on the size of file I can find but the files I delete I very small. Oh well. Just hope I never have reason to use one for real I guess

Try a floppy, delete a few files and then search the floppy drive.

Its probably something real simple that we are missing.

Put a file or two on a floppy, delete the files and see if the program canfind the files that you deleted on the floppy

Add/Remove Pro is the one I use. It's easy, it's free and it works well. :)
