Burning video files with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7

Hope someone can assist me!

I have Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 now and would like to burn some video files I have on my harddrive to CD. Problem is...for some reason, I keep getting an error message when I use the Drag-to-Disc option or use the Creator Classic interface.

The files I'm trying to burn are Windows Media files, Quicktime Movie files, etc. (.wmv, .avi, etc). I thought I could burn them just like picture files (.jpeg, etc). Am I wrong?

If anyone can help me through this process, I'd be very grateful. These files are taking up a HUGE amount of space on my harddrive.

You cannot burn video files to a regular CD. You have to have a DVD burner, I believe, and/or burn them to a VCD.

You can bun them to cd as long as they/it is no more than 700 meg, just burn as a data disk/iso, if not burn as data on a dvdr, i use Nero for Burning Cds and Record Now Deluxe for DVDs

THanks, Dave_Lethal!! I do remember reading something about DVD, CDV or something like that. My burner is a CD/DVD burner, so I am assuming that it'll work (once I figure out how to do it).

At least now I know I can't do it the "regular" way. If anyone else has used this software and can point me in the right direction, I'll be very grateful! I tried reading the section with DVD/CDV, whatever vd (ha!) and my brain turned to moosh.

*** edit: replied at the same time Mr. Patton's post came thru! So I guess I'll have to get a DVD to burn to...or turn it into a CDV or whatever. ACK! Why can't these things be simple?

I could see burning them to a CD if you just want to free up some space on your PC, but you won't be able to play it on any DVD players or anything, unless you burn the files to a DVDR or VCD.

Yea what are you wanting to do? Put the video files to cd so that you can play them on dvd player or just to save space.

To save space, you just burn the files as data files, but as someone said, they cannot be watched on a dvd player.

If you want to watch them, either make a dvd video or a video cd (vcd), for that you will need to convert the video files to mpeg 1 or 2 (i think). It would be best to get a video converter and vcd program.

Hi!

These are clips of performances -- either saved from the internet or that someone taped off the TV and turned into a PC file. I didn't know if I could watch these on TV via a DVD player (I'm totally clueless on this stuff) so I was just going to save them on a CD to watch on my PC. However, if it's possible to watch these on a DVD player I wouldn't be opposed to saving them into whatever format needed.

I'm assuming from what most everyone is saying is to save them on VCD format?? I guess?? I tried again to save them as data files but I get that error I was talking about. So it looks like I'll be forced to do it the other way anyways.

I wish I knew more about this stuff! Sorry for being a dope.

Hey there mate, feel free to ask what ever questions you want!

if you want to make it into vcd you will be able 2 fit less date to each cd, so if you are doing it out of space wise i would recommend just doing that.

The program i use to convert files to vcd format and such is 'WinAVI Video Converter' but obv it costs money to buy it, so for the cheapest and probally most efficitant way for you would be to just make a 'data cd' in nero or equivalent and just drag the files into it, and as long as its less than 700mb they should burn correctly. But you'l only be able to view them on the pc.

I have wasted 10 blank discs trying to freakin' burn my video files to CD. I just want to get them off my hard drive!! Every time I get "done" burning, Roxio tells me that there was an error. I've wasted 10 discs and I have yet to burn one stinkin' file off my hard drive.

ANYONE -- PLEASE -- if you have Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and you know how the h-ll to burn video files as data or whatever, please please post. I am LIVID. I don't understand why it won't take the video files and just burn them on there as data. I just want them off my hard drive!!

Do you have Windows Media Player 10?

Just create a new playlist in WMP and right click your video files then go to add to playlist. When you have all your video files that you want to burn, right click the playlist in WMP and select "add to burn list"

Click the Burn tab, and on the right hand side there's a box that says CD Drive (E\) or whatever letter your CD drive is...click the arrow to bring down the drop down menu and select "Data CD" and click "Start Burn"

I find it much easier to do in Windows Media Player than any other programs.

I've always had nothing but problems with Roxio and Nero and those programs. WMP works like a charm for all my burning needs.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL.....I have now come across something which may explain why in the world I could not burn video files before.

Turns out I can't burn PHOTOS either!! I cannot burn data discs! It appears that there is a button in Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 called the "import data from appendable disc" button -- it's the 3rd one from the right on the project pane of the Creator Classic "program". Anyways, this button is GRAYED OUT in Creator Classic. When you click burn, if it's an appendable disc (adding more data to the disc), a pop-up is supposed to come up asking you if you want to import data from the appendable disc.

Neither of these things are available to me, thus the "no burning" issue. So I can't do ANYTHING, which is frustrating as heck.

If ANYONE has ANY IDEAS on what I can do to "un" gray this button, I'm all ears. I have not had any luck with the Roxio site.
