Sound problem

Postby venney » Wed Aug 23, 2006 3:13 pm

Hello. Another problem.
Sound works in games. But i cannoy play media files, and when i looked in sound and audio devices it says there is 'no sound device'.
And there is no speaker thing in the bottom right hand corner, so something must be up.

What is the step i need to take next?
Thanks
Venney

Have you tried the obvious: updating the drivers for your soundcard? Are you using a soundcard or onboard?

Your icon should be there when you go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, and check the "Place volume icon on the taskbar" box.

Has it worked before?

Did you try uninstalling your drivers in the device manager then rebooting to reinstall the drivers?

The icon in the task bar cannot be ticked as no sound device is detected.
Its the on board sound card I think, I’ve no idea what it is, so I cannot update any driver. I haven’t removed any drivers recently, and the thing which makes me think it isn’t a driver is like I said, sound works in games. Even msn messenger makes a noise like its supposed to when someone signs in, but I NEED music.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your input tho dave :)

venney,

Do you have any yellow icons in the Device Manager?

Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager button.

Ok wierdly my sound problem was fixed this morning. I have no idea how. However, i have 2 things i can see with yellow !
The first one i saw is
Communications port (COM1).
That wouldnt have anything to do with our scanner not working? lol.

The other 1 is
PnP BIOS Extension.
I really have no idea what that is.
Do you think that would be the slow loading.
I have almost noticed that if i restart the pc, it wont reach the profile selection screen. It just stays on a blank screen. I have to actually turn the plug off to fix it.
I am going to download and scan my pc with the thing you suggested, i will post back later.

Thanks loads for helping gecko, your the man!

I'm going to need your motherboard make and model number.

Please see PM for a program you can use to help you identify your motherboard.

venney,

What you have is a medion pc with a proprietary motherboard from MSI
I will need the MED s/n from the sticker on the back of the tower to help find the drivers for your missing devices.
