unable to save

Postby JROK » Sun Sep 24, 2006 7:50 pm

For some reason lately I have not been able to save any files on my computer. In every program I try nothing will save. When I try to save in Word I get the error message "Word cannot complete save due to a file permission error." Why is this?

Could be a permissions issue. Right click on the C drive and select Properties. Then select the folder Security and see how its set. They should all be set to allow and the last one is unchecked.

The irritating thing, is that it might be a folder nested inside the C drive that will not be readily visible. So you might want to check the folder that the file now resides in.

Also if you have copied these files from a cdrom, they will all be marked read only. If you copy a lot of files from a cdrom and have them all in one folder, you will be given the option to adjust the permissions globally for the folder which is faster than doing them one at a time. In this case, you want to check the write permissions box to allow.
