Nero 6.0 and 6.3

Postby Jas0n » Sun Oct 03, 2004 11:27 am

Hey guys, ive ran into another little problem, this time it has something to do with my DVD Burner ( Pioneer DVR-108 ) and the program Nero version 6.0 and 6.3. I updated it.

The problem lies in the writing of the dvd. It tends to write at a very slow speed and the write buffer is now at 8%, burning at 4x speed. It used to be between 90-100% write buffer.

I dont have a primary slave. I have 2 optical drives. One is a Samsung SW-252B and a Pioneer DVR-108.
The Pioneer drive is the one that is causing me trouble when im burning a DVD.
Curretnly it is set as followed:
-Primary Master=Seagate Barra 80Gb HDD
-Primary Slave= none
-Secondary Master= Pioneer DVR-108
-Secondary Slave= Smasung SW-252B

would changin the Pioneer DVR-108 to a Primary Slave fix this problem?

OS: WinXP
CPU:P4 2.0GHz
512RAM

I do not think moving your burner to primary slave would make much of a difference.

what has changed between the time your burner would use 90-100% of its buffer, and now? Was it the update from 6.0, to 6.3 or was it on an older version of nero like 5.5.

I'd check your CPU activity durring burning to see if another program might be stealing your precious recources. If you have windows XP or 2k, this is easily done by using the task manager (right click an empty space on your taskbar, and chose Task Manager - processes tab. You can sort colums by clicking on the lables at the top (clicking CPU sorts by CPU time, clicking memory sorts by memory used) The task manager - performance tab will be useful in showing you how much ram your using vs how much ram you actually have. You'll want to look at "physical memory" and make sure that "available" isn't low... if it is your system will force itself to use "virtual memory" or a pagefile, which basically uses your hard drive as extra ram. While using a pagefile technically works, it will slow your sytem substantially since access to your harddrive is about 150 times slowr than using ram.

I'd certainly suggest making sure your system is clean of virus's and spyware. Check the thread and Specifically run Adaware and Housecall antivirus (i'd run housecall to "check up" on your system even if you have another virus program running full time)
