"manage add ons" in IE

First of all I would like to say, I absolutely hate IE. Unfortunetely, the convenience has me hooked.

Anyways, I installed SP 2 on XP a while back. Now this stupid 'manage add on's' has blocked Acrobat Reader and a few other programs. I can't enable them. I click on them in the manage add on's obtion. It says they're managed by your administrator and I cant click the enable option. The little dot is on disabled and its faded out. Now, I cant open many things on the IE.

I'd rather keep IE then get rid of it because I've always used it and I don't feel like learning a new web browser.

Hello JROK ...

Read this
How to manage Internet Explorer add-ons in Windows XP Service Pack 2

Scroll down to the Troubleshooting add-ons and the Troubleshooting the Manage Add-ons feature sections in the link that opens.

Basically all I got from that is that the administrator has to enable them. I'm the only account on my computer. I thought I was the administrator? What else should I try

Actually there are a few Troubleshooting section to try and narrow the problem down for you.

Did you try any of the Troubleshooting the Manage Add-ons feature?
Maybe I'm reading it wrong but by reading the whole article I read you can Enable/Disable the Managed Add-Ons in the Registry.
Not an easy task for someone who is not familliar with using it.

Always back up your Registry before making any changes.

Here's a good article on "" written by Geekgirl ...

Once you've successfully backed up your Registry and you feel confident enough to Modify it,follow the instructions at the link in my post above.
Print them out for easier reading.

If you need to be walked through the REGISTRY to check the Add-ons and the Group Policies, post back.

GPEDIT.MSC is the Group Policy Editor, that would not be what you use to edit the Registry.
Although it is designed to be used in an Enterprise environment running Active Directory, all it really does is make registry entries.

To edit the registry you type Regedit.
