This Document Contains No Data

Postby Daninku » Tue Oct 19, 2004 2:48 pm

I'm having lots of problems with my browsers (Firefox, IE and Opera). The major problem is that I am getting an error 'This Document Contains No Data' (with Firefox and Opera). , when trying to access Hotmail or posting long forum replies. Can someone help please? :(

Let's see...there are quite a few reasons Firefox does this but they seem to not be all the same fix.

Here's few things to check out.

1) Do you have Proxies Enabled? Try disabling Proxies and try it again.

2)Have you installed any new Themes? Try deleting your Profile and start fresh...see if that helps.

3)The same "document contains no data" problem recently, was fixed by 1 person because they had password-protected the Administrator directory for extra security, which seemed like a good idea at the time...

4)"the document contains no data" message in firefox can be caused when you have ad blocking enabled.

Try this:
In the address bar, type:

about:config

find the setting called "browser.xul.error_pages.enabled" and set it to true.

5)This error can also be caused by servers which include 404's. (Essentially what adblocking can cause.)

Let us know...

Anythings possible Daninku ...

I doubt you have the Admin Dir password protected.

Before you DELETE your Profile and start fresh...I want you to try the 4th suggestion...

Try this:
In the address bar, type:

about:config

find the setting called "browser.xul.error_pages.enabled" and set it to true.

Yes Cactus, done that already. Now instead of an error, sort of, I'm getting a paragraph (the same error but it explains the problem). I can't post it becuase it's too long and it won't let me. Can I send to you by email and then post it yourself here? So others can view the message the browser is giving me.

Oki sent. This is an error which occures AFTER logging with my .NET to hotmail. It is supposed to show the inbox. Btw, it is not showing me exactly that passage; it is showing only one paragraph, but when I do copy it. I will get the whole passage you've got. Dunno hehe

Ok...here's Daninku error message

Net Reset Error

Offline Error

The document contains no data.

The address (URL) is not a valid format and cannot be read. A typical address will start with "http://", followed by an address, (e.g. www.netscape.com), followed by a path to the content (or just "/"). A common cause for the problem is using backslashes(\) instead of forward slashes (/).

The file specified by the address (URL) cannot be found. Check that the file exists and that you have sufficient permissions to view it.

The address (URL) does not correspond to a known site and could not be loaded. This could be due to a misspelling in the address or because the site does not exist. If the address is known to be valid, or if the problem occurs for many sites, it may be an issue with your proxy service (if you use one) or the directory name service lookup. In such cases you should consult your system documentation, administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) as appropriate for further assistance.

The address (URL) starts with a protocol that is not recognized by the browser. A protocol is the part at the front of the address, such as http: or ftp: which tells the browser how to connect to the site. In this instance, the protocol is unknown so loading cannot continue. Check that the address is correct before retrying.

The browser was unable to connect to the specified site, even though it exists. This may be because the site does not accept connections from your computer, the service may be down, or the site does not support the service or port that you tried to connect to.

The browser timed out while trying to connect to the specified site. The site may be experiencing high loads that are slowing it down, or network problems are preventing data from being received from it in a timely manner. If the site is likely to be busy, consider waiting a few moments before retrying the request.

The browser has stopped a connection because the site is redirecting requests to itself in a manner which prevents it from ever completing.

The site responded to the network request in an unexpected manner. This may be due to address (URL) using the wrong protocol for the specified port, or a non-standard configuration on the site which is running different services than expected.

The link to the site was dropped unexpectedly while negotiating a connection or transferring data. This may be due to a network fault somewhere between the site and your computer. If the problem persists, consult your system documentation, administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) as appropriate for further assistance.

The browser is currently offline and cannot connect to the requested site. Place your browser in online mode before trying again.

Well here is some info on how to ENABLE/DISABLE Proxies

For Firefox see below.

Because the standard proxy provides a lot of protection, it may prevent certain sites from operating normally or completely for you (e.g., if a site has a javascript navigation bar, the navigation menu won't work).

If you want to disable the proxy for a particular web site, simply go into the proxy settings for your browser, and list the url of the web site as an excluded site (excluded from the proxy). Note, however, that if you do that, you are losing some of your anonymity and privacy protection.

The directions below and in the right column cover "http" only, but you should be able to use the same setup for https as for http. It's a good idea to go ahead and mirror the https (SSL) during the time you setup http, as https (SSL) is used right along with http.

Internet Explorer 5+:

Menu - Tools ---> Internet Options
Select "Connections"
Select the type of connection you use (DIALUP or LAN).
For LAN users, select "LAN Settings"
Click on "Use a proxy server"
If you wish to exclude local addresses from the proxy, check that box
LAN users should then click "Advanced"
Enter "tusk.cotse.net" as "Proxy Address", and "8080" as "Port" for HTTP, Secure (SSL), and FTP services.
If you wish to exclude certain web sites from the proxy, enter them in the box on that page, separated by semicolons (; ) <<<BACK SPACE THIS BRACKET SO THERE IS NO SPACE--SPACE CREATED SO A SMILEY DOESN'T SHOW UP!!
Click OK.

Mozilla Firefox (0.8):

Tools --> Options
Highlight "General" in the left column and click on "Connection Settings"
Check "Manual Proxy Configuration:
For "HTTP proxy" insert "tusk.cotse.net" and specify as Port: "8080".
Enter the same information for SSL Proxy and FTP Proxy.
Enter the domain names of any sites you wish to exclude from the proxy in the "No proxy for" area, separated by commas.
Click OK.

Someone will have look at your error message ... in the mean time go through the suggestions...including deleting your Profile in Firefox and creating it again.

Oki thanks Cactus, but all proxies are disabled, because next to HTTPs I have nothing written. Al proxies are not selected. Should I leave them empty, or I have to do what you said?
