Removing Program Problem

Postby leeegglestone » Sat Feb 05, 2005 2:59 pm

I have tried uninstalling Panda titanium anti virus before and it has got most of it away but i still see that its present in some ways and want it out so it doesnt use up my precious memory

Theres are some files in program/panda titanium , what can i do other than just delete these directories straight out, then hopefully they cant load those files on startup

When i check my ms config it shows this file is loaded up and it relates to panda.

Startup Item - APVXDWIN
Task Manager Processes show me these which i think have a connection with panda
avengine.exe
webproxy.exe
pavprot.exe
psimsvc.exe
prevsrv.exe
pavprsrv.exe

Heres a print screen of what i get on bootup-
Image

When i try doing Add/Remove Programs and select Panda remove i get this error - error extracting support files.

I have tried uninstalling it before and it has got most of it away but i still see that its present in some ways and want it out so it doesnt use up my precious memory

Theres are some files in program/panda titanium , what can i do other than just delete these directories straight out, then hopefully they cant load those files on startup

I have win Xp, 512mb

Thanks

Have a look in msconfig> startup and see if there is any reference to any Panda stuff there with a check mark in it. If so go to this site and download "autoruns"

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freew ... runs.shtml

Open Autoruns right click on the Panda items and then click Delete. Then go Start/Run, type regedit and click Ok. Navagate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software and remove Panda.

Once done reboot your pc and do a search for each of the .exe's you listed, they should be gone

You can also run HJT and we'll see which processes ARE starting up and we can kill the process with it.

Download Hijackthis Ver. 1.99
---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----most entries are harmless and needed.

From what I see you have three anti-virus programs, AVG, Panda and McAfee:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [APVXDWIN] "C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda Titanium Antivirus 2005\APVXDWIN.EXE" /s
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcupdate.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG7_EMC] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exe

I suggest that you uninstall AVG and McAfee then as icecube said reinstall
Panda and then uninstall it. The reinstall should create the needed files to uninstall.
Once your system is clean of anti virus programs then install the one anti virus program of your choice.
Having more then one anti virus installed can cause conflicts and could cause a virus infection.
