Hello.
For some reason, when i play games not the pc will crash after a while. It mostly happens with bf2, but i was just playing quake 4 online for about half an hour and it crashed the pc. Its happning with all my games.
My graphics card is an Ati X800 XT PE, and i have not over clocked it or anything.
Is there a way to log crashes? So i can post next time a crash happens.
THanks
Venney

It could be overheating. The Video Card could be overheating or the CPU. Other then that I am not to sure why, shouldnt be anything driver related, sounds more like the hardware side of things.

Hi venney,

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery section
Settings button > System Failure section > check the box 'Write an event to the system log'
and uncheck Automatically Restart
Now the next time it crashes you will get the BSOD with the error code and file id if able.

Have you checked the event viewer for errors?
(Start > Control panel > admin tools > event viewer > look in the system section).

Hey gecko, where is the bsod file? so i can check the error, it was already ticket.
I was thinking it was an over heating problem, was thinking maybe a new gpu fan. There not expensive.
Thanks for your replies.

It might not be the GPU that's over heating. Does ATI not have a thing that allows you to check the temperature? Is there a program where you can change all the settings and stuff? Look in there.

Ok well I’m not playing any games at the moment and I just checked the temp, and it’s at 55oC.
Isn’t that hot considering I’m not doing anything at all?
I will try what you said phil, I’ll play a game for a bit and alt n tab it.

55 is a fine temperatue. Mine is 45 - 50 with that FAT fan installed. It was 40 before it was overclocked though. I don't think it will be over heating it game if it's 55 when you're just doing general stuff. Who knows, It could be.

Let us know what your temperature is in game :)

venney, if your running a AMD chip then 55c is warm for not having a load. If your getting into the 60's while gaming then your definatly overheating.

It's his graphics card that over heating. 90 in game is pretty hot.

Our good friend Ed B seems to think that it is ok at 80 - 90. I only had problems when mine was 100+. I would have thought that 55 when not on load is not a problem though?

Remember they can with stand up to 150 degrees without sustaining damage.

venney,

You can check the event viewer for the error event code
Got to Start > Control panel > admin tools > event viewer > look in the system section.
You are looking for a red icon with a white X in it, double click on the icon.
Highlight the error message copy and paste it here.
Now check the box for “Data Words” highlight that text, copy and paste it here as well.
