Did it work before you installed the patch?

Can you ping the server?

yes. I could play before i intalled the patch .
I also did system restore but when i go on line it wants me to update again so i do update again but after it gives me the same message.
could it be norton? when i first got my mobo it came with and oem of norton but it was a new version that i didn't have on my other comp=laptop .
when i'm surfing the web and i go in a web site norton always tells me to except or block and that made me confused for months but after it stoped and some pages dont show up so may be norton is blocking the conection to the main server.

OK - to start with lets see if Norton is to blame by either disabling it, or uninstalling it & trying again.

Is this machine connected directly to the internet?

surly you can connect driectly to a server? and not through gamespy? also if u have a copied virsion or have a crack on the game you may need 2 ehter get a new grack for the update for it to run or if you have the cracked virisn working i know for a fact that halo has cracked servers running so you can even play if its cracked. that help at all?
