I found this tutorial on how to set up and run a dedicated Doom 3 server

http://gameadmins.com/modules.php?name= ... e&artid=59

And this step-by-step guide
http://www.planetdoom.com/d3multiplayer/connecting/

I used to run my own server in Counter Strike "back in the day", and you want to have a PC just for the server. If you're playing the game on the computer that you're running the server on (not dedicated), everyone in the game besides you is going to lag like crazy.

Counter Strike is the only game that I ran a server for, so I'm probably not very much help, but hey, I can't say I didn't try.

well was able to run a dedicated doom 3 server just fine, on the same comp, no lag for my friends , no lag for me, i have:

3.2ghz p4
1.25 gb ram
256mb radeon 9800 pro

and like a 700kbs internet connection or something like that

but anyways i figured out how to run a dedicated doom3 server, lms (doom 3 mod) ded server, half life 2 garys mod server, so thank you for that guide and what not :)
