Sound card with a mind of its own

Postby fustard » Sun Jun 13, 2004 1:03 am

I run XP professional. Anyway-

I got my computer about a year ago, and during setup the sound card would always be recognized as a "PCI Input Device" with no drivers to be found even though i had the drivers and such installed (Soundblaster Audigy 2 is the sound card). Anyway, i moved it to another PCI slot and it worked fine until now, when i did my yearly reformat. I first tried to move it and it worked for about 2 days and then randomly during start up said "new hardware found" and it was a "PCI Input Device", and i had no sound. It does this now no matter where i move it, and every now and then the sound will work randomly for day. Is my sound card just retarded or is there something i can actually do to fix it other than just get another one?

Are the drivers you are using come with the card or are they the New drivers put out by Creative specific to your OS and Soundcard?

The following files are available for your Sound Blaster Audigy 2 running under Windows XP:

The thing is it's not the drivers, whenever the device is actually recognized as a sound device, it goes through the whole process of recognizing the drivers. Whenever it doesn't work, the computer is acting like the card is just some generic PCI card that does nothing.

I would try the card in another pc,see if gets detected correctly and that it works.
I would then try another soundcard on your pc,then you can narrow it down to the Soundcard or some other problem on your pc.
It will at least let you know that it is the sound card or it will eliminate it.
