What I want for Christmas!

Postby gotcha » Wed Dec 17, 2003 5:04 am

Please help me find the solution to this problem!
Between 5 minutes and 20 minutes, this window will come up and a few seconds later, it will shut down my computer!
The computer will reboot itself and it does not matter what I am doing the same thing will keep happening!
I have checked for viruses, worms and Trojans!
Thank you

"The system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEMS
Time before shutdown 00.40 seconds.
Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure CALL (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly"

What I want for Christmas

Postby gotcha » Thu Dec 18, 2003 5:33 am

Thank you all for helping! However I tried all the things suggested, first my Norton Anti Virus quit! I got the patches from Symatic and Microsoft! Still had trouble with shutdowns, they would happen before I could do anything. Then I was told to get "AntiVir 6" free on the net. I went to friends house copied "AntiVir 6" onto disc and managed to install it. Swept my computer, it came up with THREE Trojans and TWO worms then it deleted them. I was so happy I poured a glass of wine and before I could drink it the same problem started over again!
However after spending 2 days with this problem I suddenly realized that I had made a backup of my whole hard drive on 7 CDs (6.5GBs) last month with "Drive Image 7"!
What a time to test it. I put "Drive Image 7 CD” into my computer, it booted up, then it instructed me when and how to put the 7 CDs in!
And bingo everything is working great, my Norton Antivirus is working again and I have just had another glass of wine!
Merry Christmas to all of you friendly people!
Cheerio.

Glad your going again but now would be a better time to install the patch that PCguy has given you a link too.It should keep the same problem from happening again.
