DVD burn problems

Postby jpmarques » Wed Feb 08, 2006 1:19 pm

Hello guys!

I tried burning some DVD's with my laptop and it took me about 5 hours to burn just one! I read on some other forum, a guy found a solution to this problem bit it is only for people with two IDE channels, the solution posted there won't work for me because I only have one IDE channel!

This "fix" is for anyone that has a QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082:
- Reboot the computer in Safe Mode
- Navigate to My Computer, right click on it, and then click on "Properties"
- Click the Hardware tab
- Look for the "IDE ATI/ATPI Controllers" text, and click the plus sign to the right of it
- Right click on the "Secondary IDE Channel" and click "Uninstall"
- Once it's uninstalled, restart your computer normally.
- After you restart, Windows XP will automatically recognize your secondary IDE channel and the QSI drive, but this time it will actually install the drive with Ultra DMA mode 2.

Could anyone please help me? I'm desperate...!

First we will need some more information.

What is the exact make and model of your burner?
What software are you using to burn with?

I tried removing the DVD driver but it didn't work! Next I tried finding out was a ASPI layer, after googling it and downloading a program to check what version I had, I found that I didn't even have ASPI installed. What I did was use ForceASPI and install ASPI! Apparently it solved my problem, and not that it matters much but the version is 4.60!

Now why my computer doesn't come with is I haven't got a clue!

Thanks for all the help Gecko!

I take that back! I thought it had worked but it turns out that it didn't! I also noticed that the cache level is going up and down, maybe it has something to do with that!

Sorry to be bothering you again, but I'd really like to have this sorted out!
Thanks!

Well I’ve covered most of the usual thing that could be wrong.
There could be a conflict between burning programs that are or have been installed.
Easy CD & DVD Creator from Roxio has a reputation of causing write issues in other programs, have you ever install it?
How many burning programs do you have installed, and which ones are they?

I’ve done some searching and it seams that that QSI DVD+RW SDW-082 burner might be the problem.
There are a number of people that have trouble with this drive and not just Acer also HP, Gateway.
There is a firmware update but I would not recommend it, from what I read it may fix one thing but cause a different problem.

I updated to LX44 it seemed more recent than LX43! Anyway, it seemed to fix my problem which is obviously a buffer problem, but at 23% of the burning process, the buffer went from 80% to 13% and kept changing! I think that is why the burn is so slow!

Anymore ideason what might be causing this or should I give up on DVD's!?

Call Acer and complain to them about faulty components used in their systems.

Threaten to hire a layer for a class action suite against them over this matter.

Also write them a letter and email so you have trace ability from the beginning.
