K6 2/333 overclock

Postby Cactus » Sat Jan 03, 2004 9:46 pm

I'd like to overclock this AMD K6-2/333 computer I have.
I can't seem to find the various jumper settings.

I found the settings for 95mhz-3.5x and the 66mhz-5x fbs,its set at the 66 setting right now.

I changed it to the 95mhz setting but the CPU still showed the 2/333 mhz at boot-up.
The pc booted fine and ran stable...but then again it only showed the old cpu speed 333mhz.
Do I need to change JP8 and SW1?
What would the settings be for those?

We will need the manufacturer name, model number and the version number
of your motherboard to help you on this one.

The info I have is:

AMD-K6 2/333
K6XV3+ rev.AA+
AWARD MODULAR BIOS v.4.51PG
00/15/1999-i440LX -2A69JB0IC-00

Hope this helps.

First of all I would suggest that you download the AMD K6-2 datasheet from here:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content ... /21850.pdf
This will tell you all about you processor settings and needs.

Then I would suggest the you read this page:
http://members.tripod.com/~jphale/overclock-k6-2.htm
He has a article on just how to overclock and what your can expect for results.

Thanks...I read both links through really good.
As far as I can tell both DIP Switches must be changed in unison but I can't seem to find the exact position of the either.

From the Skematic off the inside of the case it shows the DIP SWITCHES but does not say what the optimal or combination of changes to both switches would be.

For the one switch (a 6 pin) the settings for 66mhz 5x fbs is:
#1 on
#2 on
#3 off
#4 on
#5 on
#6 off

The other choice is 95Mhz fbs 3.5x :
1 off
2 off
3 off
4 off
5 off
6 on

The other switch settings (4pin) are

1 off
2 on
3 off
4 off

On Skematic it shows settings for :
2.2v
2.3v
2.4v
2.8v
2.9v
3.2v
3.3v
3.5v

It also shows a JP8 (3 pin) with setting for each as well.

So do I change the DIP SW to the 95mhz 3.5x setting, then do the second DIP SW with JP8?

If you are just trying to use what is on your system case then
I would suggest that you download your motherboard manual from here:
http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Manual/38740946.PDF

From what I see the J8 jumper is for your CPU fan.

The AMD CPU SW2 dipswitch settings are on page 17

The core voltage settings are controlled by the JP5 jumper and the SW1 dipswitch.
See page 21 and 22.

JP4 is for setting your Ram clock speed, see page 25.

Thanks Gecko...
The Manual you found is for the K6XV3+/66.
The manual for this board is K6XV3+ rev.AA+
The jumpers you were referring to just didn't match what was on the board.
I did a little searching at the DFI link and found the correct one.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
It was -36C here today and I have some vehicle thawing to do as I have to be at work @ midnight tonight.
I'll try and do some of the switching today if not tommorrow and post.
We'll be in a deep freeze for another few days so I'll be busy.
Wish me luck...
