WIN XP PROBLEM!!!!

Postby jmh2578 » Sat Jun 24, 2006 6:17 pm

My computer is going nuts on me, it keeps locking up on me, and I have ran virus scan and spyware scans, all come up clean, I have updated my Java, and still keep getting the same problem. When I open any type of program that requires graphics, such as AOL, Pogo, Diablo, Computer Games of any kind, it locks up in 2 different ways, the first way is the entire system just freezes up, the second one is I lose everything on my screen to a blue screen error message that says: "A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER.
MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU'VE SEEN THIS STOP ERROR SCREEN, RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. IF THIS SCREEN APPEARS AGAIN, FOLLOW THESE STEPS: CHECK TO MAKE SURE ANY NEW HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE IS PROPERLY INSTALLED. IF THIS IS A NEW INSTALLATION, ASK YOUR HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE MANUFACTURER FOR ANY WINDOWS UPDATES YOU MIGHT NEED. IF THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE, DISABLE, OR REMOVE ANY NEWLY INSTALLED HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE. DISABLE BIOS MEMORY OPTIONS SUCH AS CACHING OR SHADOWING. IF YOU NEED TO USE SAFE MODE TO REMOVE OR DISABLE COMPONENTS, RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, PRESS F8 TO SELECT ADVANCED START UP OPTIONS, AND THEN SELECT SAFE MODE.

I have talked with liljim, and he referred me here, so if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it, I thank you in advance.
Thanks,
Jeannie

Are your video cards/sound cards/RAM all seated properly inside your computer? Also, did this start happening after recently installing any new hardware or software? If you installed something new and this started happening, uninstall it and see if that fixes the problem. If you haven't installled anything new that you know about, you might want to check the inside of your computer to make sure everything is seated correctly and pushed in all the way. If that fails, you could download HijackThis from a link at the top left of this screen, run that and post a log in here.

Hope that helps any :)

Machine Check Exception (MCE) errors are hardware related most often from bad Ram but could also be something else.

You can use to check your ram.

You must have chosen the Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO(.zip) because the floppy version has a readme file in it.

From the readme file:
For Windows, unzip the package into a directory like C:\memtest.
You will now see a file called memtest86+-1.xx.iso in this directory.
You will need to burn this file to a CD with a CD recording program.
Do note however that you should not make a regular data CD on which you for instance write your text documents and holiday photographs.
Instead the iso file is a so called image of a CD, it is a direct copy of a CD.
Your CD recording program will most likely have a feature called burn image or something to that effect which you should use to burn the CD.

Once the cd is burned leave the cd in the drive and reboot your system Memtest86 should automatically run.
Let it run at least an hour to get true results.

You might check all of your fans on the computer. Freezing can be caused by a heat issue. Cat hair does wonders to a cpu fan.

If its a Dell GX280--that error message got 3 motherboards (so far this year) replaced where I work. Bad motherboard capacitors--- I smell a Dell

Here is something to try if its internet related and you have installed SP2 on you system. On Internet Explorer go to tools and select Manage Add ons. Disable all of them and see if you still have the problem. If it goes away, re enable half of the items. If it reappears, disable that half and enable the other half. If thats good, enable half of the half that triggered it --If the problem is in there, 8 tries should nail it down.

The other thing that I would do, is get rid of anything that says AOL. Those people walk to a different drummer.

no, it's not a dell, it's an asus, not an internet problem either, it freezes on all kinds of programs, not just internet, i can be playing a regular game and it will freeze. my main concern is why is it showing a reading error on avg in safe mode, but not in normal mode??

Assuming that you have not over-clocked the CPU or the buss the next possible devices could be either:

The power supply is starting to go out and is not outputting enough voltage for your system.

Next as stated by icecube it could be an over heating issue caused by a fan going out.

You could download and install to monitor you system temperatures.

As for the reading error you get in safe mode you could try download diagnostic software for you hard drive.
