Help with an appcompat.txt problem.

Postby silver5speed » Mon May 03, 2004 5:56 am

I don't know what has happened and I have tried many solutions but when I open certain programs or files in those programs I recieve an error message that contains this same file and I don't know how to fix it. the file is c:docume~1\name~1\locals~1\temp\wer23.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt It has showed up on two different programs that have suspossedly crashed. I hope someone can help.

Thanks,
A man desperately in need.

Seems your running Norton and PCCillin at the same time, generaly not a good idea.Pick one and remove the other.Another thing i see is from sony...take a look at this in reference to c:\progra~1\Support.com\client\bin\tgcmd.exe .This is a type of spyware embedded by sony you may want to remove.

Im going to leave the registry entries to brad (another mod),he's proven to be our resident hijack log king :)

I agree with liljim. Norton, Pc-cillin, and Zone Alarm..... Pick one AV and one Firewall.
Turn off "System Restore".
Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

Postby silver5speed » Mon May 03, 2004 5:22 pm

i cannot find the sony support file in the add remove programs or the other one. I found the tgcmd file but it won't allow me to delete it is there any other way of deleting it? I'm in the process of doing the other suggested items as well.

you can remove most of those entries from HiJackThis itself. Open the program, click scan, then check the ones you want to be gone, then fix checked.

HiJackThis will make a bunch of files with a .bak extension so it can re-add something if it's causing you problems.

Here's a Forum Post Dealing with the problem.
As for always opening a link in a new Window... Some sites have that written into their HTML code but two things to try:
IE / Tools Internet Options / Advanced Tab / Uncheck "Reuse Window for launching shortcuts".
or
For IE 6 try:
Start / Run / regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Start / Run / regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
Start / Run / regsvr32 Msjava.dll
Start / Run / regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
Start / Run / regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
Start / Run / regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
Start / Run / regsvr32 Browseui.dll
Start / Run / regsvr32 Shell32.dll
