system recovery

Postby bobbyc1 » Sun May 30, 2004 12:39 am

I had to do a total system recovery with my back up disks. This of course meant that everything that I had put on my computer AFTER I purchased it was now gone.\
I seem to remember dl a program once that said it was used to make things like the red "x" show their pics, and other stuff, but I can't remember. \
As for the sites looking different, the main one is c-net it is all screwy. I figured out that the reason is none of the little icons on the site show up for me! Weired huh?\
Thanks for the juice\
Bobby :(

Here is a fix that I have found that sometimes helps this problem. If you decide to try it be sure to backup the registery keys involved before doing anything.

To fix the red x problem in IE6 remove the following keys in the Windows registry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\ftp]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\http]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\https]

I hope this helps.

Go to Control Panel/Internet Options/Advanced/Scroll down to Multimedia and see if there is a check in the box for show pictures. If not place one put a check in the box/Apply and close out. This should pictures back on your web pages.

Go to Control Panel/Internet Options/Advanced/Scroll down to Multimedia and see if their is a check mark in the box for Show Pictures. If not place one their. Press apply and close out. This should put pictures back on your web pages.

If there is a check in the box, are you running any type of pop-up blockers, check their settings. Sometimes they will not allow pop-ups as well as pictures, or advertisements if there settings are to high. I no mine will display only the text on a web page if I bump it up to it's highest setting.
