Graphics card

Postby Jazzman » Tue May 25, 2004 1:39 pm

Hi all!

Due to low funds, I am not able to get a card at the moment. Therefore i am stuck with an appauling 4MB s3virge card. Whilst I know this will always be slow, will somebody please give me some setup tips as I have no idea how to optimise its performance. Stuff like hardware acceleration...that kind of thing - how should it all be adjusted to optimise this graphics card?

Thanks

you will not be able to optimize that card well enough to be able to play current games. As far as doing stuff in the windows environment, as long as you have the newest drivers, you should be in good shape.

What specifically do you need to optimize it for? Is there something you are trying to do that is slow?

edit: Just found this exact same post from you under winxp. I've deleted that thread... you only need to post your question one time... I promise we will get to it. Most of us who answer questions look at EVERY post out there, please only ask your question once in the future

wow... you still use kazaa... I found less and less useful files on kazaa, and have switched to Emule.

I guess to answer your question, your system specs seem to be decently high, so it MAY be your video is the bottleneck. Since you have XP, you could open the Task Manager and check out the specs under the Performance tab (you get to task manager by right clicking an empty spot on the task bar and choosing task manager)

My system has 1 gigabyte of RAM in it, and it is currently using 350megs of memory. It could be your computer is using virtual memory (page file) which is when your computer uses hard disk space like RAM. Hard drive access is about 100 times slower than ram, so that can cause significant slowdowns.

I checked newegg and searched for video cards under 50 bucks.. it found 79 different cards.

Yeah, it is using page file, typically at around 150MB. Is this normal?

thanks
