network NIGHTMARES

Postby engine_okrad » Wed Jun 02, 2004 12:05 am

recently i have been loosing connection randomly to my broadband. liek tonight, i was sittin here fine, chatting on msn and browsing a few websites. suddenly all the browser windows contained ''this page cannot be displayed''
 so i restarted the modem, pc and router, but it didnt help matters.

then after about 30 mins, wow its back. then 5 mins later, same problem. however i am always able to stay on msn if i was on at the time it went out, but i cant log in again during blackout periods.

contacted tech support, they ran a disgnostic tool and told me my modem was 100% fine, no problems and it was my router.

i have two laptops connected to the router, and when i unplugged my brothers cable, connection here came back on instantly. alarm bells ringing for anyone?

Check your CAT5 cable it may be bad. Have you gone into your router settings? Has this just begun or have you always had this problem?

Next time reboot only the Router. See if that's it. Seen this many, many times. Especially with a Belkin Router.

Did you try changing or swapping Cat5 cables, as suggested?
