Strange WirelessNetwork/MSN Messenger/Win 2k3 Issue

Postby lazygun » Thu Jun 03, 2004 11:17 pm

I have a laptop running Windows Server 2003.
it is connected to my home Wireless network using the onboard wireless B adaptor (it is an IBM R40 laptop).
I can run Trillian and MSN quite happily ordinarily.

However, as soon as I try to have an Audio or Video conversation with someone through MSN, my wireless Connection drops instantly (when I press the accept button).

To get it back I have to disable the adaptor, and then re-enable it.

I have searched the IBM knowledgebase, the Netear knowledgebase (my wireless router is a netgear), Google Groups....and found squat!
This is a fresh install of Win2k3 (I previously ran XP Pro and it all worked fine).

I am pretty certain I have the latest network card drivers...and definitely the latest MSN.

Anyone got any idea where I should look?
Thanks.

Sounds like the router may be detecting Ethernet jabber and cutting the port off. Jabber consists of Ethernet frames, etc. that are longer than that allowed. It is usually caused by faulty Ethernet interface that is putting noise into the ink. Resetting clears it.

Just a thought...

i would try 3 things.

1.) make sure you have the latest drivers for your network card
2.) un-install/re-install the program which you are using for audio/video (msn messenger??)
3.) update your wireless router/broadband router's firmware. If you use 2 different devices update both.
