monitor on the fritz

Postby chewie » Wed May 12, 2004 4:46 pm

When I turn on my pc (compaq p4 running xp) the monitor displays a picture for a half second then goes black. If I turn the monitor off and on again, it does the same thing...any suggestions

My first suggestion would be to test the monitor on another system if possible.Thats the only way i know to be sure if its going out or not. There's a VERY small chance it could be the vid card but not likely.

I hope its not a Sylvania 19"monitor because they're junk!
If its the monitor, hopefully its still under warranty?

Good luck!

You might want to check the video drivers themselves. If nothing else works that is.

sorry all...I haven't been on in awhile...thanks for all the responses. Its actually a Nokia 19" and no longer under warranty. I tested the pc on a spare monitor and it works fine so its not the pc. I'm going to try a repair shop next. Again thanks for all the help. This is a great site.

If you tested the monitor on another PC & it was fine, surely this indicates a problem with the PC?
