Computer vs Snickers..

Postby nickthegreat » Tue Jun 08, 2004 9:19 pm

bonojourno all, if anyone could help with this id be very grateful...
a mate in a pissed state decided to steal a snickers bar through my window and when i asked for it back he obliged. he threw it, it hit my ceiling and then landed on my pc, which carried on working until i turned it off. apparently my cmos settings are now corrupt.....

the computer gets stuck at a screen telling me this if im lucky, sometimes it won't even power up. if i take out the internal battery and change one of the jumpers (think it resets the settings -looked it up in the manual) i can sometimes get to a screen asking me if i want to change the settings back to the defaults. if i choose to do this i can get into windows (twice in about 200 efforts....) but it then resets soon afterwards and the same problem happens.

according to the guy who put the pc together the bios settings need to be changed as the default values don't work with my set up - don't know if this is true - someone please help! have only just got this pc and am not happy ---a fucking snickers.....

pc: asusp4p800 mb, 3200 2x256ram, p4 2.8, dvd /hd etc...

cheers,
nick

First, it sounds like the snickers won. Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

Second, mostly only you have to set the speed and mulitplier on your CPU in the BIOS. Do you have this info?

Also, try booting with no HD and just one stick of RAM and no sound card or anything, just a video card. See what happens.

hi,
have tried unplugging the hd/flopply/etc, it didn't seem to make any difference - the problem happens right after it checks the memory, i did have both sticks in though. i don't know any speed/multiplier settings. no keys are stuck and yes the bastard snickers has won, looks like im going to have to pay a fortune to get this fixed, SH*T,
cheers,
nick
