Outlook making me yawn

Postby Jazzman » Thu Jun 10, 2004 8:16 pm

Outlook Express seems to have started taking ages to start. It does not 'Send/recieve' at startup, so what is slowing it down? The splash screen shows, but it stays there for ages - 1 minute and 9 seconds before the program is ready to use. I have Norton Systemworks, but I've always had it and Outlook never used to take THIS long to start.

Any ideas?

Cheers :rox:

Try this from Kelly'sKorner:

There are various ways of disabling Windows Messenger from automatically starting, but they all have some drawbacks. Until now. Namely, if you disable Messenger, OE takes forever to load if you have the Contacts pane enabled.

Go to: Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Add a New, DWord value called Hide Messenger and set the value to 2.
(This step is required to prevent a long delay when opening OE with the Contacts pane enabled).

From that I realised that theres no reason to have the contacts pane enabled, so I have disabled it. OE now starts in an instant!

Thanks as always
