If you can go into safe mode, can you access the Device Manager? If so see if you have anything with an exclamation mark beside it.

Did you already have XP on this system before and just decided to re-install for some odd reason? Is everything loaded and seem to be ok when your in safe mode?

Are you sure you have the recommended requirements for installing XP?

(As stated by Microsoft)

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Home Edition
PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*
Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

So what did you do after deleting the partition?
Better still...how did you delete the partition?
You don't mention your system specs, which would help us give you a better answer.

Boot the pc using a win98 boot disk...
FDISK the drive and make sure it shows up in the BIOS.
After that Re-Format the drive then try and re-install XP.
Make sure its not formatted Fat16....
It must be Fat32 or NTSF.

Video drivers

Postby icecube » Sat Jun 12, 2004 4:20 am

your install might have picked the wrong video drivers or the card is funky. Try installing generic drivers (vga) in safe mode and reboot --

Then download new drivers for your card.
