Postby chick » Thu Jun 10, 2004 4:25 pm

Suddenly I find that any Avars or Emoticons that were animated before, now are static. Does not matter whch site I visit. Any ideas?

Go to the following setting in IE and see if it is enabled: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and make sure "Play animatins in web pages" is checked.

If you viewing everything in internet explorer try doing this

a) Enable java and Javascript ( go to tools --> internet options --> security ,click on internet. bottom click custom level)

b) Enable active-x control

c) go to tools ---> internet options --> advanced.. First scroll down to multimedia and enable all in that ..

d) If nothing works you may want to repair or reinstall IE

Repair IE :
-----------

Start > Run rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g

or

Start > Run rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\windows\inf\ie.inf

Reinstall IE:

Do you have an internet accelerator? If so try emptying the accelerator cache to see if that corrects the problem. If that does not work then try turning it off to see if that corrects the problem to help isolate the problem. If this does not work then try reducing the speed to the accelerator to see if that corrects the problem.

To add to the above have you cleared the Temporary Internet Files? If not then try this also.

Thank you both for your help. Have tried all the simple ones but now it looks like a reinstall so think I might go for a complete clean-up with a reformat and clean install of programs. Can wait a bit as problem is not all that important at present.

I know this is simple but have to ask...what do you have opening .gif's ?
The default is Internet Explorer.
To check this open up "Windows Explorer"
Click TOOLS at the top
Click FOLDER OPTIONS
Click FILE TYPES

Scroll down until you see "GIF Image"
When you Highlight it,at the bottom it will tell you what it opens with.
Win98,Win98SE,ME,2000 all use Internet Explorer to view animated gifs.
WinXP use "Windows Picture and Fax V"

Make sure this is set correctly.
If you need help post back.
