When I switch on my pc and turn up the speaker vol. there is a discernable pulsing sound like a gramaphone needle in the run off track.I have tried another sound card&speakers but still the same. I have noticed that the h/drive active light seems to pulse in unison. Also when the mous is moved this produces a scratching sound in the speakers and the hd light flickers. does not seem to affect sound quality but annoying. Any help please?

Do you have your Microphone turned on by chance? My laptop did this once and it was very annoying. Right click your volume icon and select "Properties". Try clicking the Mute option on the Microphone slider.

this may be a grounding issue. If both the pc and speakers have a ground plug, try disabling one of them (pref the speaker) by using one of those plug adapters. If the speakers don't have a ground, you could try finding a bare metal spot on the back of the speakers, and running that to ground (all metal on your pc case should be, you could shove a wire into the bottom/round hole of a power socket (beware), or any other way you can find ground.

Teststrips . Have just checked for possible earth loop,as you suggest,PC earthed, spkrs not . Same same

Are you using speakers that have an amplifier built into them? If so, is this where you are turning them up? Try setting the volume on the speakers a little under "half way" and turning up the volume on your pc volume control. Does that help?

Brad/ Teststrip Thanks for your interest and help, tried everything to no avail, even disconnected fans one by one without result, however someone suggested moving sound card away from possible interference(modem/tv card) which I have now done. It is not perfect but liveable with , much quieter. Thanks again
