Video Adapter

Postby Geekgirl » Thu Jun 17, 2004 10:21 pm

I have a 64MB NVIDIA GeForce 4MX 420 AGP video card installed in my 98SE machine. I am pretty sure its going bad because for 1, my whites are turing pink, pretty but not acceptable. Second reason I'm sure its my adapter is I use an IOGEAR Miniview Micro 2-port KVM Switch to toggle back and forth between computers and my XP machine is showing no sign of bad video. I might add its awesome to have one of these.
Anywho, my question is what is the normal lifespan of a video card?
I plan on opening the case and blowing out the dust bunnies to see if that may help and if it doesnt then I guess I will replace it.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

Everytime a vid card is pulled out,the little gold coatings on the pins gets
worn off.Look at the pins...see what kind of shape they are in,if the gold plating is worn out or scratched off....the card is pretty much finished if your looking for maximum quality.

I've got PCI graphics cards & even an old ISA one which are still going - that said, it can only take 1 slightly faulty component to kill a whole card so you'll always get some which die earlier :(

I removed my video card today and the fan was actually cleaner than I thought it would be. That said I still aired out what remaining bunnies I could see and reinstalled. I wanted to add Cactus, the card was extremely hard to remove from the slot, and the pins did look alittle worn. The card was only ever removed maybe 3 - 4 times total, ever, but its probably on its way out. I haven't noticed the color change at all today even before I removed the card, so its either going to go all at once or play head games with me till I cant stand it and replace it.
