Computer not booting

Postby PCChip » Sat Jun 19, 2004 7:09 pm

Ok first... Thank for being here....

Now my problem:

A friend from out of state shipped me his computer to reinstall windows because of a strange problem..

It suddenly was missing \windows\system32\config\system

I figured ok, just reinstall windows... No go... During windows install, I was constantly getting errors saying that it couldn't load CDROM drivers and harddrive drivers....

After install finished, I tried to boot up the computer.... I was instantly taken to the error screen where I can select safe mode...

I make a selection, any selection and it reboots the computer.... Every time....

I'm thinking it is a motherboard problem, but want to get more feedback first...

The only thing I tried was to first flash the bios incase of virus... And I also completely changed the bios chip ( I had another motherboard sitting here doing nothing )....

So, now I'm at a complete loss.... Every time I boot the computer, it just goes to the error screen and I select either safe mode or normal and it just reboots....

System config:

asus a7v8x
512 mb ram
xp 2000 AMD
ati all in wonder 9600
built in NIC and sound
maxtor 120gb HD
NEC CD-R/RW
420w ps

This is a recent problem... I built this computer a year ago and it ran great....

First of all... Don't ever buy DIAG from http://www.diagnoseprogramm.de/indexe.htm

Not worth the money.... And it's only 12.00 and some change...

Second, I seemed to have fixed the problem.... I had another board (same model) sitting here that wouldn't boot... I pulled the bios chip out of it and put it in the running board.... All problems fixed...
