Trying to fix Incredimail

Postby Lindalee » Sun Jun 20, 2004 3:38 pm

Hi,

I have used Incredimail for several years, but for some reason it stopped working correctly, so I thought it would be best to just uninstall it, and reinstall it. Seems easy enough right? ha ha. Well....I'm having problems removing it from Add/Remove Programs...and even Add Remove Pro cannot uninstall it (a box pops ups and says Install log not found).

Perhaps I do not need to uninstall it...but I will tell you what is happening when I try to run it. A box pops up that says:

Outgoing server http//oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cg-bin/hmdata cannot be found. Please verify that you are connected to the internet, and that the server address is correct and try again. Details: Failed to create local object 1944722520. Class not registered.

Well, I am connected to the internet. But...I'm not sure if the server address is right or not. How do I check that?

Do you think I should focus on trying to uninstall it (even though it won't let me) or I should focus on the problem of the server info...etc.

Here's what Microsoft says about uninstalling Incredimail...

First remove Outlook Express 5.5, delete the remaining Incredimail references from the registry, and then reinstall Outlook Express 5.5.

To delete the registry keys for the Incredimail program:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
For each key that you need to delete, locate the key, right-click the key, and then click Delete:
Under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key, delete the following keys:
\.ima

\.imf

\.imi

\.imn

\.ims

\.imw

\Applications\Impcontent.exe

\Applications\Incredimail

\Incredicontent

\Incredimessage

Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key, delete the following keys:
Software\Classes\.imc

Software\Clients\Mail\Incredimail

Software\Elishim\Protect\Browser (remove the Incredimail value)

Software\Incredimail

Software\Microsoft\Direct3D\Most Recent Applications\ (remove the NAME value that points to Incredimail.exe)

\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Incredimail

Delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu\Programs\Incredimail key.
Quit Registry Editor.

Just try deleting the REG entries for Incredimail and see if that works.
I don't use MSN for a mail client,so i can't tell you anything about it.
Outlook is Windows main mail client...so there could be conflicts with the software.
If your just wanting to delete Incredimail, try the REG instructions above.

re incredimail

Postby badpolarbear » Sun Jun 20, 2004 5:38 pm

There is also the possiblity Incredimal has been uninstalled. There are cases when we remove an item from Add Remove programs that the program is gone but the name still stays in Add Remove Programs. There is a utility out there that removes names in Add Remove but I cant remember what it is, I will search around and see if I can find it again

I went into the Registry files (first I made a backup)...and I deleted what I could find from that list. (I went to the link you sent me and printed it off). One or two of the ones listed on that list I did not see.

Unfortunately, it didn't remove it all...because when I tried to reinstall Incredimail (I have had an icon on my desk top that says "complete download of Incredimail")...it says that it is still active.

What is weird now...is that I have an Incredimail bar on my tool bar now that says "IncredMail.Xe"...but if I click on it...a box says that it can't find one of the compenents....and then a black box is put on my screensaver (like it wants to open it...but it can't). I know this sounds confusing.

I wonder if I should use my backup I made of my registry files and reinstall the old registry files. Of course...that's just going to put all the Incredimail files back on there...and I'll be where I started.

This is complicated isn't it?

You need to remove all traces of incredimail before attempting to reinstall. That would include any shortcuts. Is it still showing up in start>programs? Is there a uninstall feature in the Programs?

IT'S WORKING! YEE HAA!

Postby Lindalee » Sun Jun 20, 2004 6:05 pm

Thank you all so much! I turned of my computer...then turned it back on...and then it allowed me to continue the download for Incredimail. I don't know how...but it's working...and I'm SO PLEASED! I guess removing all those "files" from the registry worked! I'm now receiving about 132 e-mails on Incredimail (eeek! ha ha)...because it's been down for so long. Oh well...at least it's working again!

Thank you all for helping me! Thanks Cactus! :)

I'm sure I'll return to PC Tech Forums before ya know it...because something is always breaking down from time to time! (I hope I can go at last a few weeks before the next calamity however!)

Have a great Sunday!
