I need help! with my front panel

Postby bsxiong » Thu Jul 01, 2004 11:37 am

Hi,

I'm currently building my first computer right now and i not sure about about connecting my front panel led.

So can i mess my motherboard up if i make a mistake on my front panel led? Like if i put the wrong switches on the wrong place.

Thanks,

Boon

its generally pretty easy to find out where each connector is supposed to go based on the motherboard's manual. It is also usually silk screened into the motherboard itself. Once you have them plugged in to the basic place they are supposed to go, you should be able to use the power button and reset button no problem. Your Case speaker should also work. If you power LED and HD activity lights don't work, you'll need to flip them the opposite direction (put the colored wire and white wire in opposite places). You won't hurt anythign by putting them backwards, you just won't have colored lights on the front. Leds only work with power goign through them one way.

As far as hooking stuff up in the completely wrong place, you might have a problem there, but like i said the motherboard manual usually has a very good layout of those pins, so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

please visit my link on my website to see if my connections are right.

This is how i have it on my computer right now but i haven't test it yet to see if it works or not. I want to make sure that i got it right so that i won't burn my motherboard.

note: These wires are exactly what i have on my case. There are others too, but i don't think that they are important sinces, it's just: Ear L, Ear R, then some USB pins, GND, MIC,

Please help!

if it is not right, please tell me how

Ive looked over your diagram, they all seem to be heading in the right direction. Make sure that you connect them in the right direction, Im meaning there will be a small + on the head of the connector which would I am assuming the positive connector and get put on the #1 pin. The Power LED connector should have an open spot in the middle of the 2 wires as you shown in the diagram, the only one confusing me is the PWRBT, but I believe it stands for Powerbutton.

Looks good to me, good luck and thanks for visiting PCTech Forums.

If anyone else sees a problem dont hestiate to post.

I think you are overanalizing... turn it on and see what happens. I've NEVER seen a motherboard fried due to misaligned motherboard wires... and i've messed up a few times getting the diagram completely backwards one or two times. When i figured out what i did wrong everything was still fine. You only have 5v lines going to that header, so it would be very difficult to cause smoke/fire.
