sound problem

Postby otto » Sat Jul 03, 2004 4:24 pm

Hi can anyone help
I recently had a new motherboard fitted and scince then I have had a problem with the sound on my computer ie when increase the volume to maximum the sound is still very low
When I check in My Computer Information it is showing 2 sound cards 1-Microsoft Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device and 2-Realtech AC97 audio for Via(R) Audio controller
Can anyone throw any light on this and is it part of the volume problem
I am running Win XP

If you read the documentation that came with your Motherboard,it will tell you if the Onboard Sound can be disabled and instructions on how to do it.
Although some Motherboards do not allow disabling of the ONBOARD SOUND.

Hi Cactus
Checked motherboard manual and carried out instructions to disable on board sound however after carrying this out I had no sound at all I checked the computer information again and found that it had removed the entry for the Realtek card so I had to re enable it again any other thoughts would be welcome

Disable your on-board Sound, pull out New Sound Card,re-boot.....
Shut down the PC...install new Sound card...Windows should detect and install the drivers for it.
Let us know.

Hi Cactus
I finally got to do as you suggested and found that the only card was an integrated one ie Ac 97 Digital audio controller integrated and the other card that was showing was something to do with the modem so I seem to be back to square one
The integrated card seems to be a fairly comprehensive one as it has a program in which you can adjust volume as well as settings such as concert hall living room etc however I have tried all computations but nothing improves the volume which remains faint

HI
Yes I did try another set of speakers without success
HOwever I have determined that the motherboard is aVIA KT 600 and that the sound card is built into the board it seems that I may have to buy another card and install that any suggestions on which card I mainly need it for music which I add to videos during editing

i think there is a mixup in the answers. in your first post you soke about the sound of the uni modem; this is a modem, not a sound card.
As your sound is on board, just give the manufacturer and model of the motherboard,; installing the drivers from the manufacturer's site will help you

4 in 1 drivers

Postby icecube » Tue Jul 06, 2004 4:34 am

make sure that you have installed the via chipset drivers--The most curret I believe is the via 4 in 1 drivers ver 4.51. Second, the motherboard cd should have the sound drivers on it, its a separate install from the 4 in 1 drivers.
