win 2k amd keeps rebooting it self

Postby kilik212 » Fri May 30, 2003 4:13 pm

Hi,

suddenly my win2k amd 1.3 ghz box keeps restarting it self, no warning, stop error or anything in the system log i can see ( i have disabled the option to restart on stop error). the problem occured just after a failed install of window media player 9 upgrade. i saw the installer writing to the registry near the end then the it just rebooted. from then on ( yesterday) i've had increasing occurences of random restarting.

i tried reinstalling my video drivers, as i've heard that it might be the culprit, but my system rebooted during that process.

now i cant even start in safe mode! i felt the cpu, and it doesnt seem to be over heating. i would think it might be the power supply, but the failed windows media player event seems too suspicious.

any help greatly appreciated!!!

thanks,

>>Paul

btw, this is the coolest looking bbs i've ever seen :)

well, as it turned out, it was the power supply after all. sadly all my meddling has corrupted win2k.

a lesson learned; if your pc keeps crapping out check the power supply first

thanks!
