Burning DVDs slows down PC

Postby superbad » Mon Jul 12, 2004 1:36 am

Hi All,

I'm not quite sure how to explain this problem but I'll do my best. I've been having some trouble with my HD - for some reason it wants to stay on PIO mode as opposed to DMA. I found by switching the HD and DVD IDE plugs and restarting it would allow Ultra DMA.

Problem is when I attempt to burn a DVD with CloneDVD 2 it creates the image ok, but when I attempt to burn back to disc it burns at about 0.5x, as opposed to 8x. It often stops completely.

Sometimes after doing this the HD reverts to PIO (requiring i switch the plugs again) but not always.

I know this is a tricky one but I thought perhaps someone has encountered the same issue. If all else fails I'm considering a HD format and fresh Windows install - any ideas whether this would help or is it strictly a hardware problem?

What happens if you use a different software to burn?Is it still slow?

Also have you checked for a possible firmware update for your burner?
