AH HELP WITH WIN98 AND DRIVERS

Postby Tank » Mon Jul 12, 2004 6:06 pm

Ok, I uninstalled a game of my called 18 Wheels Of Steel Across America from my Computer because there were so many add on files cluttering it up, so I uninstalled from the Control panel, and deleted everything that stayed, like add-ons, dealer files blah blah blah, EVERYTHING off the hard drive. I reinstall the game and all the chrome on the trucks is black! The wheels, fuel tanks, horns, headlight covers, its all black when it should be shiny aluminum. Also, the camera is to close to the truck and the mouse is to sensitive. I think it is because a guy I know gave me drivers for Windows 95 and I never cared to pay attention because i thought it was a good update. But anyway, I am running WINDOWS 98 SE, so obviously the drivers are for the wrong OS, I tried to install the correct ones from Compaq's website, but they keep freezing upon the install running, how do i get rid of the Windows 95 ones and install the correct ones?

The computer is a Compaq Presario 7935
Diamond Stealth lll Video Card
Windows 98 Second Edition Video Card

PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP, I APPRECIATE IT!

Right-click MyComputer, choose Properties, click the Device Manager tab...are there any Yellow Exclamation marks in there?

Ok I went to the Device Manager tab and yes there are Yellow Exclamation marks, under the Other Devices, the PCI Card has a yellow exclamation mark beside it, i tried to search for new drivers but the Computer couldn't find any. i went through the Registry and found traces of 18 WOS AA on there. And the Drivers Iw as talking about are for my Video Card. I was wondering if there was a update out about 8 months ago, so my friend sent me these for my video card and he said they would work, they are for the right video card, but wrong Operating system, they are for Windows 95, I am running indows 98 SE.

Do you know what is in your PCI slot? If its your video adapter then you need to identify it and find the correct drivers for it.

No I do not know what is in it. Actually i think it is empty. I deleted all traces of the game in the Registry and it still all showed up as black, so how do i get my Windows 98 Drivers for my Video card back in. How do I uninstlal the drivers, the wrong windows 95 ones,a nd put in my Windows 98 ones without freezing?

First, if you have a yellow Exclamation mark in other deivces > PCI ,that tells me you have something installed on your motherboard using a PCI slot.
Go to Device Manager, locate the video card, remove it, then reboot. That will get rid of the drivers but I wouldnt suggest doing so untill you have the correct drivers to install.
The link I provided has drivers for Diamond Multimedia cards but from your info I cant be positive on what your model is. You can go to Device Manager and click on Dispay Adapter to see what you got. OR
I would open your case and physically look at your video card to see exactly what it is.

You didnt give enough info
