Reinstall Xp Home : With Recovery Disk ???

Postby nigenigel » Wed Jul 14, 2004 1:49 pm

My friend has a packard bell pc..and is currently running xp pro which he put on his pc after he had to reformat although he did that by just booting from the cdrom and installing it that way.

He now wants to go back to Xp Home...but packard bell only supply a Recovery Disk, which seems to be just a windows 98 boot disk and 2 "Software Library" Disks.

Does anyone have any idea on how i can install xp home again for him? he has done it once before when he had to reinstall xp home but cant remember how :|

as I remember from my tme working at service call, packard bell PC's use the boot and recovery disks to access the recovery CD-Rom which contains an image of the original operating system.

if the drive is repartitioned, the recovery disks replace a hidden partition which the system needs in order to operate.. once this is done, any bootable windows OS CD can be used to install a fresh operating system..

it HAS been a few years though.. :\

the drivers can be downloaded from PB's site like any other PC.. and depending on the age.. XP would support the modem at the very least.. allowing download of any peripherals XP doesn't support :)
