Memeory question

my last post on this forum was met with a great response, thanks to all that helped, as a follow on, i removed my faulty DIMM and am now looking to fit a new one (or 2)

My board mainboard has a nvida chipset, which IIRC increases memory performance if u fit equal size dimms in slot 1 and 3, (this was how my last system was setup.

my question is this, i know that the DIMMS should be the same size (2 x 256 or 2 x 512 etc..)

but do they need to be the same brand, have matching CL etc...

as always any help will be much appreciated

You can use different Brands. They should have the same specs., though.
