Norton Internet Security issue...

Postby lazygun » Thu Jul 15, 2004 5:01 pm

I have no idea when this started happening, and I cnanot figure out what caused it, but over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that CCApp.exe (some common component app part of NIS) uses as much CPU as it can grab.

I have read through Symantec's KB, and found one article about BellSouth connections (Do not have any BS software installed, and they are not my isp ) and another article about something else (I forget now) equally specific to something else, which does not apply.

I have disabled the auto email checking, made no difference.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP1, Windows Updated to the hilt.

I searched google groups as well, and didn't find much.
I have run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy, and neither of them found anything running (a bunch of cookies and 3 reg keys ).

I updated with LIveUpdate and rebooted...same behaviour.
I disabled the firewall, and the Auto Protect....same behaviour..

I have nothing active in netstat -a , except for remote desktop...which is me... :)

Help?

Do you think if you un-installed it and re-installed it that may help?
Have you tried it?

Ya know for the last few months Ive seen alot of problems with N.A.V., ranging from their lack of catching viruses down to giving errors in the diff O.S. and conflicts with other software.
Dont get me wrong I have been faithful user for years but I but mayb its time to change eh?

I got so tired of NIS screwing my system up that I ended up buying a router and using that instead.. no system resource drain..

again.. no answer to your prob.. (no free answer anyway) but still an option to look at.. routers aren't that expensive these days :)
