Kentucky Fried KEYBOARDS!!!

Postby Un4g1v3n » Wed Jul 21, 2004 9:26 pm

Ok, well, I have 2 comps, and 1 keyboard. (well 3 that no longer work)

Whenever I try to switch from one computer to another (aka mouse, keyboard, monitor), I plug everything in, and it works for about 1 minute. Then, when Windows starts, the keyboard doesnt work. So I switched everything back to my other computer, the keyboard will no longer work.

When the computer starts, the lights come on, but then they turn off. Ive tried pressing all the keys, I have pressed CAPS, SCROLL and NUM lock, and no lights come on. What is wrong with my other computer? Why does it fry my keyboards?

Does the mouse work when you plug it in to the computer after Windows starts?
Are you sure your connecting them to the right ports? It pretty easy to mistakingly connect the mouse to the keyboard port if its not clearly marked.
Have you ever used the computer thats frying the keyboards before or is this a home built computer?
Sounds like a grounding issue to me or the keyboard port is faulty.

Uhh, not really...The LEDs seem the same. And im not a moron. I know which are the mouse/keyboard ports. Sheesh.

Its just that i plug it in, and it doesnt work (mouse does) and when I remove everything to the other computer, the keyboard doesnt work.

Its a store bought computer (like, 1002031203412301230 years ago) but still. That shouldnt happen.

So uhh, yea.

Bye.

I didn't mean to offend you, I apologize.
I also don't think your a moron, but its easy to mistakenly connect those two up wrong....

And no it shouldn't happen, again I feel its a faulty keyboard port.

Remove the Keyboard from "Device Manager" and Power Down. Remove the Keyboard and Boot. Now Power down again and hook it back up and Boot. See if it finds it and reinstalls.

Check the keyboard ps2 plug. you may have a pin broke off in the female receptor on the MB that is messing things up.

are you hot plugging (moving the keyboard while the PC is turned on)? This is VERY bad for the PC and the keyboard. Most newer pcs have built in protection that will disable the ps2 port until the computer is shutdown and unplugged for a few minutes, but older PCs will fry the keyboard port if/when you hotplug.

I had a motherboard with a bad ps2 port given to me, and I baught one of

Well, I tried AGAIN... and same thing happened. That's like, 4 keyboards now. I looked at all the keyboards, and noticed that the pins on the outlet of the keyboard, we all bent! 2-3 pins are always bent... Why are they getting bent?

Any suggestions?

Look at the keyboard port on the back of computer to see if theres something inside there that could be bending your pins
