Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

EXPIORER.EXE
SENTRY.exe
ALCHEM.exe
RASCUT.EXE

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

Before following the great advise Cactus has offered, please do this:

First, turn off System Restore.
Then you need to remove "Twain-Tec" in Add/Remove Programs. Twiantec.dll is a transponder. HijackThis will detect it as a BHO but it must not be removed using HijackThis. This is because of the remaining registry entries and files which can be dangerous. Instead the following method of removal is preferable and complete:
To permanently disable the software click Start / Run / Type: regsvr32 c:\windows\twaintec.dll (Or mxtarget.dll)
Reboot the computer to Safe Mode, search for these files and delete if they are present: mxtarget.dll / mxtarget.ini / twaintech.dll / and twaintec.ini If twaintech.dll or mxtarget.dll are in use, then you would need to rename them, reboot the computer, and then delete them.

Now, follow Cactus' advise and add these to his list:

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

ssvr.exe
expIorer.exe Notice the capital I instaed of a lower case l
PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

O9 - Extra button: Dell Home - {18C314A0-E316-11D3-96A7-70CA4FC10000} - http://www.dell.com/ (file missing) (HKCU)

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.)
(This would also include the “GoBack” Program if it is installed.)
Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SchedulerMgr] C:\WINDOWS\ssvr.exe /i
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Msupdate] C:\WINDOWS\expIorer.exe /i
O4 - Startup: PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\WINDOWS\ssvr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\expIorer.exe Notice the capital I instaed of a lower case l
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and reboot.
