you can get the modem drivers
*you will have to sign up to driverguide to download (its free)

Have you checked the volume control to make sure the mic isnt muted or turned down?

Your driver disk had a virus? Was this the disk that came with the board? How did you reach the conclusion it carried a virus and what virus was on it?This would be a first for me to hear that a driver disk was infected with something.

Already got modem drivers from there, tried to set up but all it does is uninstall any drivers that are there, and tells me to restart my PC, xp tries to reinstall but there is always a problem.

Yes I have checked the volume control, mic is active, volume on full and in advanced mic is boosted, but still no joy.

Yes the disk did come with the board, my PC worked without loading the drivers (after a fashion) and I installed my anti virus which said there was a virus on the disk (this was after trying to load the drivers twice before and my PC just kept rebooting) so I had to wipe my HD and start again and again, I have verry little hair left now!

OK...try this Check in the control panel first and see if theres any pctel drivers showing that you can uninstall, then go to device manager and remove whats showing there.Install the unidriver and reboot, maybe that will work.Im not sure what the deal is with a trojan generator being on the install disk, certainly interesting (got your email  ).Is your sound card being recognized correctly in the device manager? You may need to download the correct sound drivers instead of using what XP installed to fix your mic problems.

Thanks Tried the unidriver, uninstalled device first then reinstalled with new ones (still no joy though).

As for the trojan gen it was a file called reboot (in the install program)found in a hidden file on the disk.

I've tried to look for the sound drivers(I would have thought they would have been on the disk?).

It looks like my sound card is recognized OK, I've been into device manager and there are no ! marks beside any of the components under, sound, video & game controllers.

Are you getting an error message or prompted for missing files when installing the modem?I have the same modem and a driver that works under XP but i cant remember where i got it from,im going to upload it and post a link for you when its ready.
Yep,sound drivers should have been on the disk if its onboard sound.

hehe..i remember mine was picky too, even worse in linux :D .What is the error your getting?Maybe that will lead us somewhere.

For your sound, there's 2 things i can think of..If you have a manual it might tell you what sound chipset is on the board,if not you can post your board info here and maybe we can find out for you.

Are you bald yet?
