DVD Writer will not work in Tandem

Postby Torquay-Pete » Thu Jul 29, 2004 7:13 pm

Hi once again, having solved my previous hard drive Prob I now have another  . I have an optowrite combo unit as the main CD Drive and until recently ran this with a Pioneer 104 DVD writer as slave with no trouble at all. then the Pioneer decided to stop working so I decided to upgrade to a BTC 8X DVD writer. This will NOT work alongside the Optowrite. I have tried this as master and Slave but still no luck. This WILL work on its own as master but as soon as I hook up the Optowrite and try a simulation burn on Nero I get a communication failure; if I take the optowrite out then all is well. This is a pain in the Butt, although I can run the DVD writer on it own ..it would be nice to have them both working. By the way Device Manager says both units are working properly. Help would be Gratefully recieved .........Pete

Hello,
Have you tried to set the BTC 8X DVD writer as master on the secondary and set the optowrite combo unit as slave on the primary?

What I'm saying is your h.d.d. is the master on the primary controller, and the BTC 8X DVD writer is master on the secondary controller, set the optowrite combo unit as slave on the primary controller along side the h.d.d.
And yes you will need to set your jumpers correctly and the slave is the middle connetion on the ribbon.

Its possible its not compatible, I have a Lite-On CD-Writer and I can't use it with anything set as slave even on the Primary controller
All I can have set is the h.d.d. and the writer both as masters one on each controller. Go figure :|

I personally would have this setup exactly the way you stated it is, both h.d.d. on the Primary controller and the rom and writer on the secondary but have you tried the storage h.d.d. as slave on the secondary? Worth a try you can't use it the way it is now anyhow

What jumper settings do you have on the drives?? I have said it before and will re-iterate it here..

When using UDMA controllers and cables.. ALL drives connected to the cable MUST be set to CSEL (Cable Select) setting in order to function 100% correctly..

Also, check in device manager to ensure that your secondary IDE channel is running in UDMA mode for both drives.
