2 scanners into PC only one works HELP

Postby efiste2 » Thu Jul 29, 2004 11:46 pm

im running windows xp on a amd 2.6ghz 512 mb ram pc and i have a flatbed scanner and a slide/neg scanner connected to it via a self powered USB2 hub. However, only one will work at a time. when both are connected, ie with both connected the last one to be connected works fine but the other gives the error message "please ensure that the scanner is on and the cable is connected" I dont want to use both scanners at the same time just have them connected and choose which one to use in an options menu in my picture software. all the correct drivers are installed and both scanners work fine when only one is connected. this has had me in knots trying to figure this one out, can anyone help :(

You may be having an IRQ conflict, have you checked your Device Manager?

the device manager tells me that there is a problem with the scanner that wont work, the error message reads.........

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

and after installing the downloads i think are applicable that cactus suggested im still having trouble ?????????????? it s funny how the last one to be plugged in overides the first, its got me pulliung my hair out!!!

I would completly uninstall BOTH scanners...
Then re-install one at a time.
Did you update one of the scanner drivers?
In some cases the Device requires the old drivers to be removed.
Trying uninstalling/re-installing see what happens.

Have you tried the Troubleshooting Wizard in the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot.
