Microsoft sidewinder pro joystick and Win XP

Postby who7 » Mon Aug 02, 2004 10:58 pm

I have had the sidwinder pro joystick for many years. When I switched to Win XP the basic functions work. The shift button though, does not work becuase it is a software. XP just sees it as another button.

This issue is that I can not load the software on to the XP box. Does anyone have a work around to make the shift work or even software for the stick that works on XP. Any responces can be made here or to my email address at who775who@aol.com

Thank you for your time.

Have you checked the microsoft website for updated software? What is the joystick listed as in the game controllers applet in control panel?

Microsoft is no longer making joysticks and so they did not upgrade the software. In the control panel it does say it is a sidwinder presision pro but still sees the shif button as just a button and not a shift button.

As far as I can tell there is no work around for this issue.
It looks like the only way to overcome this issue is to update to the Sidewinder Pro2 joystick,it will work with XP.
Here's a link to MS Knowledge Base with some troubleshooting tips for this issue.
