Networking problems

Postby Geekgirl » Fri Aug 13, 2004 1:48 am

Scenerio:

1 computer downstairs running Me, 1 computer upstairs running XP, connected to a hub. These 2 computers want to share a 3-in-1 printer also connected to the hub. The downstairs computer can print to the printer and also recieve a scanned document. The upstairs computer can print to the printer but cannot recieve a scanned document. The downstairs computer when using the ping utility cannot ping the upstairs computer.

Is this an ethernet card problem?

*edit
oopsie I forgot to mention
A laptop was taken upstairs and using the same CAT5 and the upstairs' IP addy, it could recieve a scanned document.

What's confusing me is that it can send but not recieve

Brad is thinking on the right lines here GG... it's definitely a firewall issue..

add the local subnet (or just the ME PC if you prefer)to the trusted/local zone in your firewall setup... should solve your problem (or turn off the xp firewall and install a decent firewall instead :))

If the comps are not on-line anyway...just Disable the Firewall in XP completly.
