What are some common employment opportunities relating to Internet security and PC security?

What are some good resources to learn about internet security and get some solid knowledge on the topic. Perhaps some books that cover the topics necessary for a solid understanding of internet security.

Also, are the security certifications a benefit? If so, what are the best ones?

I got my A+ cert, but am interested into the internet security arena for employment.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Certifications are a requirement if you're thinking of getting in a the security field. One of the top ones (I've recently obtained) is the CISSP. Others are the SSCP, CCSP (Cisco Security Specialist Professional), GIAC Security Expert (GSE) certification. Since you've already gotten your A+, you might want to go for Security+ from CompTIA as well. It should be "easier" than CISSP or GIAC and you should also already be familiar with the test format. This might be enough to get you into the door somewhere so you can start building up the hands on experience needed to go for your CISSP or GIAC.

As far as learning security in general, check out www.sans.org. It might not be the most intuitive sight, but there is a lot of good information there. You could spend a lot of time downloading and reading everything in their reading room and it would be time well spent. When I have a few extra moments, I like to check out the GIAC honors papers there.
