Postby Quickshot55 » Sun Aug 15, 2004 9:26 pm

There is this spyware on my computer called VX2. Everytime i get rid of it, it just comes back. I've tried the plvx2cleaner but it still keeps coming back. I figured i would try this new version of hijackthis so here it is...

Download:
Open the VX2 finder program.
Click the Click To find Find VX2.Abetterinternet button.
Select all the files found.
Click the Delete These Files button

The program will delete all files but one that will be deleted on reboot.
Allow program to reboot.

Once Restarted:
Click Guardian.reg
Click User Agent
Click Restore Policy

Answer yes to the popups following each of these.
Close VX2 Finder.

Reboot.

Run VX2 Finder again. Post the results.

Did you REBOOT??
If you did that file should have been deleted on your next boot.

Run HJT again and post a fresh logfile.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

SMSS.exe
PopupV2

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.look2me.com/cgi-bin/PopupV2?ID={6254D4B7-8858-44B1-9F23-B8D1DEE0360D}&AD=NetworkD

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Debug ] C:\WINDOWS\SMSS.exe

Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if they are there):

PopupV2
SMSS

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\WINDOWS\SMSS.exe

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and "Reboot".

Run HJT and post a new logfile.
