video card comparison

Postby Jokebook » Tue Aug 17, 2004 5:45 am

I just got a 9800 pro but have a choice of the 9600xt as well. I am playing games like WoW, Doom 3, and Half-life 2 (if it EVER comes out).

Since the 9600xt came out after DirectX9 is it a better card for these games than the 9800 pro.

thx in advance

according to at another forum site, a user who had both card, even overclocking them had better results with the 9800 pro card.

the post also brings up the point of being able to re-flash the bios of a lot of ATI cards to "make" them the next model up. In a lot of cases, it's cheaper/faster to just manufacture the highest level card and change the bios to disable a lot of features rather than re-tool the assembly line to actually make different cards. YOU WILL VOID YOUR WARRENTY if you try to flash your bios to another model, and it could result in a non-working video card. I'll let you do your own research and decide if flashing is for you.

After checking at the ati website, the 9800 series of cards support direct x 9.0 too.
