Did you try and DELETE this folder in SAFE MODE?:

C:\WINDOWS\inetg\services.exe

*EDIT*
The real services.exe resides in the system32 folder

Prompt window after rebooting

Postby miguelo » Tue Aug 31, 2004 6:16 pm

Right after rebooting in normal mode, a prompt window asks about the 'C:\WINDOWS\inetg\services.exe' file. Something is still wrong here.

Ok..let's Re-Start your computer in SAFE MODE
If you are unsure of how to do that see the SafeMode link in my sig.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

services.exe

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.all-websearch.com/
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inetg\services.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5321E378-FFAD-4999-8C62-03CA8155F0B3} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {815A82AE-CDEF-11D8-BA48-A6D245798277} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetg\services.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetg\services.exe
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O15 - Trusted Zone: www.mt-download.com

Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and remove the
following if they are there:

All-Websearch
inetg
services ----> SHOULDN'T BE IN ADD/REMOVE

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab)

C:\WINDOWS\inetg\services.exe

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin".

RESTART your computer in NORMAL MODE

Post back with a Fresh hijackthis log.

It seems the problem's been solved.
I'm now running Norton Antivirus and therefore haven't been yet able to restart and check if everything's allright, but I hope so.
I fully thank you for your help.

The only thing that looks supicious to me is that the words "MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER" no longer appear on the title bar of my MSIE after the page's title.

But this rather is like a kinda present, huh? ;-)

If you are using IE6 for your web browsing then yes this should appear at the top after the page title.
