the problem is this: Most game cd's require the CD to be in the drive while playing. They attach specific CD identifing files at the root of the drive. Without those files, they simply won't play. The only way you would be able to "combine" the cd images would be to put each game in a separate folder on your DVD, which will likely make them not install correctly. you probably wouldn't be able to just combine cds together, because files like setup.exe and autoplay would overwrite each other.
For the price of CD writeables, it's probably in your best interest to just burn 2 or 3 cd's for him. If you want to go the DVD route, you could simply burn the unextracted image files onto a DVD and he could install a program like Alchohol to make those Image files on your DVD show up as a "virtual drive" which means, he'd take one of the image files, put it through this program, which would give it a drive letter like E:. He could then install the game and play it, as long as he kept the "virtual drive" or recreated it whenever he wanted to play the game.
